So far on the University Press Week blog tour, posts have examined who, what, when and where university presses #StepUP, to educate and enlighten, motivate and inspire, support and act. Today they focus on HOW. We asked colleagues how Mare Nostrum steps up for our presses – here are their responses:
“We offer a fully engaged partnership, sharing our presses interest and excitement for the publishing program and support for their missions. We take pride in being a responsible custodian of their business in the territories we manage on their behalf, and are proud to represent them. We have shipped their books to over 900 customers this past year, providing service and support to make it as easy as possible for anyone to find and order our client’s books. We also share our presses’ goal to support their authors’ activities wherever they are around the world, and work closely with them in doing so.”

“We aim to get the data for a book onto our system and included in feeds to third parties within two weeks of receiving it. Our team make sure that not only the bibliographical data, but also the descriptive copy is checked, edited and ready for our marketing and sales teams to promote and sell it.”

“At the start of each season, as the team looks through the catalogues and join sales calls, we don’t refer to “that Stanford author” or “those Fordham books”, they are our authors and our presses and our books.”

We speak directly to authors and are always on hand to support their work or just answer general queries. We also make the effort to travel to conferences to represent the presses and speak to customers face to face.”
