Darlene Clark Hine is John A. Hannah Professor of History at Michigan State University. She is co-editor of More than Chattel: Black Women and Slavery in the Americas, co- author of A Shining Thread of Hope: The History of Black Women in America, and author of Hine Sight: Black Women and the Reconstruction of American History.

Tyler Stovall (1954–2021) was the dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Fordham University. He was the author or editor of a number of books, including White Freedom: The Racial History of an Idea and coeditor of The Black Populations of France: Histories from Metropole to Colony (Nebraska, 2022).
Michelle M. Wright is associate professor of Black European and African Diaspora studies at Northwestern University. She is the author of Becoming Black: Creating Identity in the African Diaspora.
